Local auto service begins car-repair ministry - Dyersburg State Gazette

Todd Seiber of T&S Auto Service and Repair will begin a partnership with the Dyersburg-Dyer County Union Mission and Matthew 25:40 this month to help those in financial hardship with labor costs for emergency auto repairs. Seiber has committed to donate $500 per month in vouchers for the next 12 months to be used toward car repairs in his automotive shop located at 109 N. King Ave., in downtown Dyersburg. Officials with Matthew and the Mission will screen local residents interested in the program.

Todd Seiber of T&S Auto Service and Repair has seen firsthand the burden unexpected automotive repairs can place on families living in financial hardship.

For nearly a year, Seiber has been investigating ways to help local residents in need who find themselves faced with costly automotive problems, but it wasn't until he relocated his business to the old B.F. Goodrich building downtown that everything fell into place.

"(It was) put on my heart about nine months ago to do this," said Seiber. "There is a great need for single moms and the elderly who cannot afford the regular price to get cars fixed. That's what made us want to start this program. When we moved over here to this location, it all fell into place."

Seiber has partnered with Matthew 25:40 and the Dyersburg-Dyer County Union Mission to begin an initiative that provides those in need with vouchers to be used for labor in his repair shop.

"We are going to donate $500 per month," said Seiber. "The vouchers will be split between the Dyersburg Dyer County Union Mission and Matthew 25:40. They will prescreen the people."

The vouchers, in $50 increments, will be distributed through Matthew and the Mission. Those receiving vouchers must to call to schedule an appointment.

"We are looking forward to working with Todd on this ministry idea to help people with legitimate needs get their cars repaired," said Dyersburg-Dyer County Union Mission Executive Director Neal Chatham.

Chatham said Seiber's initiative is a welcome fit to Mission programs designed to help clients become more independent.

"Often, it is the cost of the labor that makes the repair impossible for people to get taken care of," said Chatham. "This fits in with our new emphasis on helping people to learn to budget and figure out ways to solve problems like car repairs."

"This gift is such a blessing, especially to those who depend on their vehicle to earn a living and those who have limited incomes," said Matthew 25:40 Executive Director Amy McDonald. "We praise T&S Auto Service and Repair for their support in our community and look forward to working with them as well as the Union Mission in meeting this need."

The initiative will begin Monday, Nov. 12.

"We are doing a 12-month commitment," said Seiber. "And we are hoping to be able to increase our giving. We would like to double our monthly gift and open the other $500 per month up to churches who would like to recommend residents in need. We are looking in the future to be able to do that."
