My Repurposed Life?: Celebration of Service 2012 {Columbus ...

I went on a quick trip last weekend to Columbus Ohio, Ohio State University. The university supplies housing for Veterans to continue their education.? The house huge!? Team Depot took on the challenge of fixing it up, and I got to help out.

Thanks to Traci for sharing this group picture with me.? Team Depot ready for a great day of service! Associates from 8 stores pitched in to help on their day off.

This is my team, associates from a local store.? Wendy, Kevin, Chris, and Stacy were fun to hang out with.? We were in charge of painting the hallways on the second floor.? The space was tight.

Lots of hands made quick work.

Stacy was busy rolling the walls.? I did the cutting in of the low areas.? (no rolling or? reaching high for this bum shoulder)

This sweet smile belongs to Courtney, of The Home Depot Foundation. She traveled to Columbus from Atlanta.

This is the team that brought this project together.? From left to right- Courtney Smith? (Foundation Field Specialist ? (office of student life for the Ohio State University), Joe Cruz (store manager) Cheryl Grossman (State Representative) and Wendy Weeks (Foundation Field Specialist ? Western Division)

There are 12 bloggers in the Celebration of Service Blogger Network.? Eight bloggers recently traveled to Miami to work on a Fisher House. You can follow all the goings on through my Pinterest board. I was joined on this trip by Kierste {Simply Kierste}, Lori {Witty Little Secret} and Traci {Beneath My Heart}

While I was busy painting on the 2nd floor, Kierste and Traci were painting on the 3rd floor.

Shamal presented Colin with a replica of a military coin.

Some of the veterans left messages on their white boards expressing their appreciation of the hard work.

?

While there were teams inside painting and laying new floors, there was work going on outside as well.? This group was busy building a shed for bicycles, the preferred mode of transportation on campus.

Some of the other projects were landscape lighting, and my favorite, solar motion detection security lighting.

The Team Depot folks will be hard at work in December painting the rooms for the veterans? while they are on their winter break.? These folks just never stop!

Foundation and 12,000 Team Depot volunteers have completed 350 projects assisting U.S. military veterans and their families. This $3 million effort to repair and renovate veterans? homes and facilities is part of the Foundation?s $50 million commitment to veterans? housing initiatives over the next three years. This year?s campaign officially concludes on Veterans Day.
During the two-month campaign, Team Depot, the company?s associate-led volunteer force, has repaired and renovated hundreds of homes and facilities in cooperation with local and national nonprofits across the country.? From building wheelchair ramps and remodeling kitchens to painting and roofing repairs, Home Depot associates have used their home improvement skills to make a difference for veterans.
